Men Are Entrapped In Tenn. Coal Mine

Rockwood, Tenn., July 23 (By the Associated Press): Wm. J. Snow, superintendent of the Roane Iron Co., coal mines here, and party of six men early today were entrapped in Bryson Dip mine as the result of an explosion.

The men entered the mine last night to combat a fire. The explosion occurred about 2 o'clock this morning. Grave fears for the safety were held by the officials.

A rescue party headed by Jas. B. King entered the mine at 7 o'clock in an effort to free the men. District Mine Inspector Holden left Dayton, twenty five miles from here, to assist in the rescue work. An expert of the United States bureau of mines at Knoxville has been summoned.

Rockwood, Tenn., July 23 (By the Associated Press).—Efforts to rescue seven men trapped in Bryson Slip coal mine, a mine of the Roan Mine and Coal Co. as the result of an explosion early this morning had been unsuccessful up to 12:30 this afternoon.

At this time the workers had not been able to penetrate the mine to the place where the miners are believed to be trapped. Seven men were fighting fire in the mine when a gas explosion occurred. One other man in the mine at the same time managed to escape.
