Last night's audience at the Capitol Theatre were stricken with a new malady - it might be diagnosed as Laughitis - characterized by loud guffaws and rolling in the aisles. The cause of the epidemic was a sparkling comedy, Andrew Stone's "Bedside Manner."
If "Bedside Manner" was the cause, it was its own best cure for this howling sickness. A cinematic dose of refreshing Ruth Hussey as a surgeon in skirts with handsome John Carroll as her temperature-raising patient proved a sure cure for local fans' blues.
This rollicking farce is all about what happens when a fascinating physician (Ruth Hussey) meets a handsome homefront hero (John Carroll), who wants to keep her from leaving home. His reasons are romantic, but Ruth's "Uncle Doc" (Charlie Ruggles) really needs help with his over-burdened practice.
Together they hatch a merry plot designed to keep the delicious "Doc" at John's bedside.
We won't tell you if it works. But you can be pretty sure that lovely Ruth herself is just what the doctor ordered-for John!
