Council Proceedings.

Council Chamber, Little Rock, Saturday Evening, April 18.

Council met pursuant to adjournment, present the Mayor and entire board of Aldermen.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

The petition of F. Grove and others, praying to grant William Pace, an invalid, a free license to open a small grocery store, was on motion of Ald. Weeks received and ordered to be filed.

The petition of Watt Logan, asking for the use of the City Hall for charitable purposes on the 23d of April, was on motion of Ald. Dodge, granted.

The petition of the Sisters of Mercy, praying to pay the fee for their use of the City Hall to the lowest possible terms, was on motion of Ald. Weeks, granted, allowing a reduction of 10 for each day.

The request of John W. Rison, secretary of Board of school trustees, to have the 3d ward school house partitioned into two rooms, was on motion of Ald. Weeks, granted.

M. Botsford presented the report of superintendent of markets. Receipts $11.00.

Ald. Edgerton, from the committee on gas, reported on the pending question, confirming by new experiments the former trials. The committee is of the opinion that for the future, $4 for each gas post is sufficient pay.

On motion of Ald. Adams, the report was received and ordered to be filed.

After a lengthy discussion on the matter, in which Ald. Sayward and Weeks took a prominent part, it was agreed with Capt. Tims, that a new and final trial should be made under the control of the gas committee, and that as the result may be, so per light and foot, should be paid, and at that rate the price of each gas post fixed.

Ald. Sayward from the committee on ordinance, reported and presented the following:

An ordinance amending No. 46.

REVISED CITY ORDINANCES:

Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Little Rock, that ordinance No. 46 to amend as follows:

Sec. 4. The tonnage mentioned in paragraph 3s, Sec. 1, shall be assessed on the total tonnage on the main bars certificate of each boat.

The ayes and noes were called and passed unanimously.

Ald. Edgerton offered the following which was adopted:

Resolved, That the committee on streets be instructed to grade Scott street according to the grade established by city ordinance between Markham and Markham streets.

The bill of the members of the Pat debarre, fire company, for furniture for their meeting room, was rejected.

On motion of Ald. Edgerton, an appropriation of $5 was allowed to Geo. Hughes, for medicine furnished the poor.

His Honor, the Mayor, nominated I. Dailey, and Mr. J. Vance, as policemen of this city, to fill two vacancies. Nomination confirmed and Mr. Dailey, and Mr. Vance so appointed.

Ald. Edgerton moved that the committee on finance, be instructed to have 10,000 city bonds printed in small notes. Carried.

The communications of Mr. Joseph Bonat, from the deaf and mute school, were received and ordered to be filed for further action.

On recommendation of Ald. Weeks, from the finance committee, the following accounts were allowed and ordered to be paid:

Pay roll of street laborers, for the week ending April 18, $124; salary to E. Gibbons, policeman, for April and 13 days in March, $41; salary to O. Newton, policeman, for March, and 12 days in April, $33.25; appropriation to deaf and mute school for March, $110; Hodges & Weeks, 135 perch of stone to Orange street bridge, $405; Geo. H. Gibbs, stationery for February and March, $27.40; B. McKenna, for table in calaboose, $1; Simmons & Co., for half dozen chairs for council room, $40.50.

On motion of Ald. Botsford, the council adjourned until Saturday next at 7 o'clock.
