TOP GAMES OF THE WEEK: MORRIS BROWN VS.
SHAW HERE: MOREHOUSE. 'TUSKEGEE AT COLUMBUS
WASHINGTON. HOWARD HOST TO PREP TEAMS
There will be plenty of activity on the gridiron this
week, with Atlanta sharing the spotlight with Columbus.
The big college game for Atlanta fans will be the great
inter-conference battle between the Shaw University Bears
and the Morris Brown College Purple Wolverines, which
will transpire at Ponce de Leon Park, Saturday, at 2:30
o'clock. Shaw's Big Bruins have come a long way since the
season opened and will be ready to match the Wolverines in
every department of the game. Interest in this game has
reached a high peak as the fans are anxious to see the
Wolverines in action against the "T" formation. With gas-
oline rationing out, hundreds of Atlanta fans will join the
motorcade to Columbus, Georgia, for the colorful More-
house-Tuskegee tilt, to be played under the lights at Mem-
orial Stadium, Friday night. This traditional battle has
broken all attendance records for this section, attracting
fans from all parts of Georgia. Alabama and Florida. The
large delegation will be in the stands, rooting for the
Maroon Tigers, who will be out to settle a score with the
Golden Tigers.
History will be made at Booker T. Washington High
School, Friday afternoon. when the Blue and White Bull-
dogs clash with the Tuskegee High School Baby Tigers in
their gala "Homecoming Classic." Elaborate plans are be-
ing made at the Westside institution for the annual home-
coming observance and the Bulldogs don't intend to have
this brilliant event spoiled by dropping this game to the
Baby Tigers. Taking the spotlight at halftime will be Miss
Marie Patterson, who will be crowned "Miss Washington of
1945" The lovely football queen will be accompanied by a
corps of charming attendants. A colorful exhibition by the
majorettes and the well-balanced Washington High School
band will round out the homecoming festivities. The David
I. Howard Ramblers will make their debut before Atlanta
fans, Thursday afternoon, when they come to grips with
the strong Booker T. Washington High School eleven, from
Chattanooga, Tenn., at Harper's Field. Last week, the Ram-
blers romped to a 20-0 victory over the Rome High School
gridders and will be out to maintain a clean slate. The
David T. Howard band. together with the fancy stepping
majorettes and cheerleaders will provide entertainment
throughout the game and at halftime. The Washington
High Bullpups will play the Rome High machine, Wednes-
day night, under the floodlights, at Municipal Stadium.
After this tilt the fans will have a good idea as to how the
Ramblers and Bullpups stack up, as everybody is looking
forward to their big battle later in the season.
