Full Text

We were informed last week by a staunch and reliable Democrat who resides in a township immediately west of this, that he had recently been approached by a prominent Radical in that township, who, with 'a smile that was child-like and bland,' proposed to him that if he would vote for Henry for Assembly, he (the Radical) would vote for Buckalew for Governor. Every intelligent Republican in the county concedes the election of Buckalew by an overwhelming majority over Hartranft, and hence any number of Radicals will turn up between this and the election who, in their anxiety to secure the success of Samuel Henry, will meanly desert Hartranft and agree to vote for Buckalew, provided they can influence Democrats to vote for Henry. We trust that no Democrat will consent to any such silly proposition, the advantage of which would all be on the Radical side, for the simple reason that the Democrats and Liberal Republicans in the State can and will elect Buckalew, and the Democracy of this county can and will elect John Hannan. Let every Democrat stand firm and preserve his own political integrity. Let no bargains or alliances be made or entered into with Radical sharpers, like the one to which we have referred. Such expedients as this, and scores like it, will be attempted to defeat Hannan and elect Henry. But Democrats well understand the importance of the issue in this county and therefore cannot be seduced from discharging their whole duty in the premises. This done and all will be well.
