SOUTH GRAMMAR
On Tuesday, February 15, the third grade at South Grammar had a wonderful experience. They left the school at 9:00 and went via Conn. Co. bus to the Hartford Courant. Here they were met by Mr. Beldon Morgan, Public Relations Director, who showed the group two films. The first was called "Trees to Tribune" which showed the children how the paper grew from a tree, to pulp, and finally became printed and delivered. Then the girls went on a tour of The Courant to see the presses, linotypes, press room and mailing room. While the girls were gone, the boys saw a film on the Courant Newsboys trip to Washington. When the girls came back, the boys toured the building.
After the children thanked Mr. Morgan, they went to the Waldorf Cafeteria for lunch. This was followed by a conducted tour of Station WTIC, meeting Bob Steele, Floyd Richards, and Bob Tyrol; and learning by seeing the control rooms and studios.
Before they took the bus to return to school a quick visit was made to the Western Union to see where and how telegrams are sent.
This visit taught much about three means of communication the children have been studying.
