Paris, Aug. 28. Preparations are making along the Coasts to receive the English, in case they should take a Fancy to visit them: but 'tis principally to Brest and L'Orient that the Court turns its chief Care and Attention.

† Brest, a very fair noted Port of France, in the Low-Bretagne, the Metropolis of the County of St. Pol de-Leon. Subject to the French King. It stands on the Arm of the Sea, where there is an excellent Harbour (unsuccessfully attempted by the English in 1694) 125 miles W. of St. Malo, and 320 W. of Paris. Long. 4. 30 W. Lat. 48. 25 N.

N. B. St. Pol de-Leon, a strong City of France, the Metropolis of the County of St. Pol, a Bishoprick, under the Archbishop of Tours (which is a fair, large and rich City.) It stands on the Sea, 35 miles N. E. of Brest, right against Plymouth in England (which is a Sea Port Town of Devonshire, 181 miles S. W. from London.) 120 S. of it. Lon. 4. 50 W. Lat. 48. 26. N.
