Full Text

Thomas Loring, Esq., Editor of the Commercial, has been elected Special Magistrate of Wilmington. The vote was, Loring 369—Vann 119—Lamount 14. The Herald says, Mr. Loring was not "publicly known as a candidate." We presume his election was privately arranged by the Know Nothings. So an advocacy of their intolerant doctrines begins to pay. The Herald further says:

" We congratulate our cotemporary on this flattering testimonial from his fellow citizens. How people do rise in this world! First an Editor—and then the Justice,

In fair round belly, with good capon lin'd.

With eyes severe, and beard of formal cut,

Full of wise saws and modern instances."
