"The present goes by a Swedish vessel freighted by Mr. Church, the American Consul here, to inform Congress that the Algerines have concluded a Peace with Portugal, and in consequence, nine Algier frigates and Zebecks are now actually cruising off this coast, and in the Western Ocean: two of those frigates boarded a Swedish vessel a few days ago off St. Vincent, when they had four American vessels and a Genoese with them, as prizes. The said vessel, saw them take an American ship and an American brig; and a Portuguese frigate came out of the gut with five Algerine Zebecks, so that the American vessels here, as well as in every other European Port, will not meet with any more freights. I send you this early intelligence for your government."
