Members of the Nome City Council and those persons attending the council meeting Wednesday night were able to view the new Nome Light and Power office which is ready for occupancy and the remodeled City Clerk's office.
The date for property tax delinquency was set ahead to Aug. 31 at the request of the City Clerk.
By unanimous vote, the Seaview Room of the North Star Bakery and Hotel was granted approval for a beverage dispensary license.
Mayor Andersen appointed a special committee to meet with property owners north of the school with a view of acquiring this property for a badly needed playground area.
The Council voted to pay the State Dept. of Health $2,800 for its share in maintaining a health nurse and clerk for her office.
The Council gave its approval for the purchase by the Nome Power & Light of the FAA power lines and poles east of town.
Two permits were granted for signs overhanging the sidewalks on Front Street with the owners taking the liability responsibility. These were Jonas Bros. and the Board of Trade bar.
Liquor dealers Mae Bale, Ray and Betty Koplin, and Paul A. Mandeville requested that the city set closing hours at 2 a.m. on weekdays and 5 a.m. on holidays. Don Perkins and Al Doyle were appointed as a committee to investigate the matter and report back to the council.
The Street Committee headed by Bob Herman recommended the extension of the street at 5th Ave. where several new homes are being built. The extensions are from West C north to 5th Ave. and across to B St., also on 4th Ave. to East C St.
The Council approved a verbal bid of $2,500 for 2,000 yards of gravel for this purpose by Q Cab and Trucking. The contractor also agreed to load the city truck so that gravel could be spread over bad spots on the streets in need of repair.
Election Supervisor Carrie McLain was granted the use of the City Hall for the Primary Election to be held Aug. 9.
The Police and Jail Committee reported that interviews have been had with several applicants for the position of Police and Fire Chief.
Jail Supervisor Jenks reported a loss in the operation of the jail for June of $762.
The Council voted to accept the resignation of Dick Gallaher from the council.
