Zoo May Get Iron Horse For Display

If present plans mature, the Columbus Zoo may offer youngsters a real treat - a view of an authentic "Iron Horse", symbol of an era in railroading at least as dead as the dodos.

The locomotive, a K-4 Chesapeake and Ohio steam job, is a gift from the Railroad Community Committee of Columbus. A major problem, that of transporting 850,000 pounds of locomotive over two miles of ground with no track, may be solved by a trucking firm, that proposes to "grasshopper" the engine, using two sections of track, much the same way a house is rolled along the street.

The $10,000 cost, said to be cheap for such a job, will be raised through public subscription during the week February 27 to March 3.
