CHICAGO, November 19.—Henry George, who arrived in this city to-day, said to a reporter that he was greatly pleased to see that the total Labor vote in New York State was double that of the Prohibitionists, and predicted that by next Fall they will be represented at the polls: "The remarkable degree to which corruption is practiced in New York City," said he, "did considerable injury to our ticket at the recent election. The Democrats had fifty men at each of the eighty-one polling booths in the city, and they refused to allow anti-poverty voters to cast their ballots. These toughs were paid from $5 to $7.50 for their day's labor, and did all that was asked of them. Until such time as the Australian method of carrying on elections is adopted in this country, honest voters will be at a disadvantage. Allen Thorndike Rice has drawn up a bill which will be presented to the New York Legislature at its next session. This bill will embody many points which are contained in the Australian election system, and with the assistance of the New York leading papers, which admire this system, I feel assured the Legislature will act favorably upon it."
