Council Meeting

A special meeting of the City Council was convened at 10 a.m. Thursday for the purpose of completing details of the Brownell Homestead purchase. Other details were cleaned up at the same time so as to skip the regular meeting which falls on New Year's Day.

It was agreed that Mayor Lanier should attend the conference being held by U. S. Coast Guard in Juneau, January 4 on the unloading of explosives. Contractors, Northern Stevedoring and other interested parties will be at the conference, and the Council wished the city to be represented.

An ordinance was passed under suspension of the rules, providing for the preservation of trees and shrubbery on the hillside in the newly acquired Brownell property. This does not apply to the mining operations north of First Lake, which may require the draining of the lake for limited time.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL

Possible misunderstanding on the disposal of garbage was cleared up. The general public is not permitted to dump garbage anywhere within the city limits. Only those holding special permits, at regular charge, will dump on the city dump.

Jesse Lee Home and Seward Sanatorium have permits to use the city dump in preference to the old dump back of the Sanatorium. They were requested, however, to confine the dumping to marked areas, and not scatter it.
