Doubts have been raised on Capitol Hill whether the next Congress, meeting in January, would reactivate the controversial House subcommittee investigating television "payola" and "conflict of interest" in Federal agencies.
Under the House rules such special subcommittees "die" with each Congress.
Representative Oren Harris, Democrat of Arkansas, chairman of the Special Subcommittee on Legislative Oversight, has declined to say whether he would press for its revival, come January.
