The annual fair of the American Institute was held in New York last week, and attracted much attention from the variety, richness, and general excellence of the specimens of American manufacture exhibited. Mr. Everett delivered a discourse before the Institute and its friends on the close of the exhibition. It is spoken of as a very able effort, and as having been delivered with that clear and unambitious forcefulness, and elevated plainness, which have so eminently distinguished him among the public men of the day.

His eulogium upon the commercial metropolis was beautiful and happy. He trusted, he said, that it would have forever the stars of the Union for its coronet, and the rock of independence for its footstool.
