Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Connecticut, a brother to one of the members of Congress from Georgia. He was a warm friend of the French revolution, and opposer of our administration.
'I have changed my political creed. I can no longer justify the conduct of the modern Titans. I have heretofore been very enthusiastic in their cause—my prejudices have been violent for the Sans Culottes. My faith in their justice, friendship and humanity has been small for a year past; but my prejudice existed and still compelled me to advocate their cause, even after my reason abhorred it. I am convinced their design is nothing less than universal conquest and tyranny—no nation escapes their ambition and avarice. I am convinced that it is impossible for our government, pursue what line of conduct it may, to guard our country from their harpy claws: and, sooner than yield to them, I would see my country deluged with blood, and have the ghouls of all my countrymen 'shriek at once on the hollow wind.'
