Election of Pope Starts March 1st

VATICAN CITY, Feb. 21. (UP)—It was announced officially today that the conclave of Cardinals to elect a 262nd pope in succession to Pius XI would open March 1.

It was expected that all 62 members of the College of Cardinals would attend the conclave, and remain isolated from the world until, by a two thirds vote, they had named the new pope. Cardinal Baudrillart of France, who had been seriously ill, arrived last night. Cardinal Boggiani, though he suffers from diabetes and is nearly blind, was expected to attend also.
