Full Text

In addition to what we mentioned in our last, relative to the Privateer young Spartan, we now state that the real name of her commander, who is confined in jail, is McClintock, and not Barnes, as was supposed. He confesses having boarded the schr. Col. George Armistead, capt. Gatechair, belonging to Baltimore; but denies that he ever sanctioned the outrage committed on that vessel, by the crew of the privateer—neither does he justify the killing of the Spanish captain; and says that he endeavored to prevent it, but could not succeed. There is one thing certain—the silver spoons, mentioned in Captain Gatechair's statement, as being stolen from on board his vessel by the Young Spartan, were found in her cabin the day she was captured, and are now in the possession of the revenue authorities of this city.
