Full Text
There is no spectacle more disheartening than that in Pennsylvania. That a party should ask support because of its policy of protection is a legitimate movement of politics. But that it should ask the friends of protection to prove their faith by voting for a candidate whose election would be the condonation of his own confessed offences and of those charged upon Quay by a multitude of his most honorable fellow-citizens, and which are universally believed, is as discreditable an act as the annals of party and this country afford. -Harper's Weekly.
