STARVED HERSELF TO DEATH.

A Woman Takes No Food for Fifty-five Days.

BREWER, Me., Dec. 23. - Mrs. Fannie Landers, an inmate of the almshouse here, died to-day as the result of a deliberate attempt to starve herself to death. Fifty-five days ago she commenced to refuse both food and drink. At different times efforts were made to compel her to take nourishment, but she refused to swallow it. When she started upon her voluntary fast she was in good health but was depressed in spirits by her husband's death.
