-- That an Officer from France arrived at Galpee in a Dunkirk Cutter in 28 Days, and landed there, from whence he got to Montreal the Morning the Prisoners set off: there was no News transpired: but by the Countenances of the French People, it seemed to be something very discouraging:
-- That at Montreal they are in great Consternation and Confusion, blaming one another for their Mis carriage. That Salt is sold for 5s. Sterl. a Bushel, and a Quart of Brandy for 42 Livres: That the French Army is dispersed through the Country, and only half a Battalion of Regulars at Montreal, where is also Mons. Levy who is determined to give Battle to the first English Army that appears in their Territories: And that both Levy, and the principal People in Canada, seem pretty well satisfied that their Country is gone.
-- That the French acknowledge to have lost at the siege of Quebec 114 officers and 1500 privates. tho' the people of the country say they miss 3000.
-- That Capt. Ince of Ottways, Capt. Archibald of Lascelles, and 3 other officers, who were taken prisoners on the 28th of April, died of their wounds at Montreal. That Mons. Bourlamac lies dangerously ill of a wound in his thigh.
- That Mons. Longe, a famous partizan, fell thro' the ice some time ago and was drowned; his loss is greatly lamented by all Canada, as his equal is not to be found in that country.
- That the Cagnawaga Indians are divided among themselves, half of them declaring they will join us, the other half saying they will retire into the woods and remain neuter.
