For the Times.

Mr. Green:—It may not be uninteresting to some of your readers to know something of the doings of the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church North, which convened in Boston on the first Monday of May, and which is still in session.

They have determined to establish a book depository, and to publish a religious paper in St. Louis. They have elected four Bishops, viz: Rev. Matthew Simpson, D. D., and Rev. E. R. Ames, of Indiana Conference; Rev. Levi Scott, D. D., Philadelphia Conference, and Prof. O. C. Baker of New Hampshire Conference.

Also, Rev. J. P. Durbin, D. D., Missionary Secretary; Rev. Charles Elliott, D. D., Editor Western Christian Advocate, Cincinnati; and Rev. T. E. Bond, M. D., Editor of the New York Christian Advocate and Journal. Also established a religious paper and book depository in California.

One of their Bishops is to visit the churches in Liberia, Africa, in the exercise of his Episcopal office.

Rev. L. L. Hamline, one of the former Bishops has resigned his office of Bishop in consequence of ill health.

The next session of the General Conference is to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, which will be the second General Conference that Church ever held in the West.

It is thought from the proceedings so far, that an appeal will be taken in the case of the suit between the Church North and South.

The subject of "pewed churches" and "lay delegation" is yet to claim the attention of the Conference. The former, it is believed, will be left to the action of individual congregations—the latter to have a hearing only.
