Tuesday next, the fourth of September, is the day appointed for the parade and review of the whole of the uniformed corps of Militia in this city.
A plan of military operations for this occasion, has been formed by the principal officers; whose spirited exertions and attention merit applause. And, it is with pleasure, we inform the public, that the utmost harmony and cordiality subsist between the respective corps, chiefly owing to the exertions and good sense of their officers in general. This circumstance forms a happy presage of their future usefulness, and improvement in the profession of arms.
A correspondent observes, that the Honorable Council of Appointment were highly judicious in the appointment of gentlemen to the principal commands in the Militia, who have served in the late American army; and, it is a pleasing occurrence, that they have, in general, accepted of their respective appointments. Who are better calculated to train up young officers and soldiers, than those who have been in actual service, and have been actors on the late important theatre of war?—A war accompanied with many perilous vicissitudes; which called into exertion every effort of military skill, and all that magnanimity and bravery which patriotism could inspire.—The regularity and order introduced into the American army, by that accomplished veteran the Baron de Steuben, most clearly indicates, that "discipline and bravery are superior to numbers;" which, the successes of the latter campaigns of the late war clearly demonstrates. To whom, then, can we look for qualified preceptors, but to the men who have served in these interesting scenes ?
The good policy of our Council in giving appointments to the old officers,' has, we are credibly informed, been approved of by that good and illustrious personage, our late Commander in Chief.
