Full Text

We are informed that the intended Bridge at the Savoy will be begun

next Spring, when the Breadth of the River is ascertained agreeable to

the Section now taking by Messrs. Yeomans and Whitworth; the main

Arch not less than 100 Feet, the Carriage Way six Feet wider than West-

minster, the Masonry between high and low Water Mark large Blocks

of Marble, as Portland Stone is found not sufficiently durable, the Foun-

dation of the Piers intended to be 18 or 20 Feet deep. The Want of

this Precaution in the building Westminster Bridge will prove most likely

fatal to this Structure, whenever the Bed of the River is sunk to its pro-

per Level to improve the Navigation.
