ACROSS THE BAR

Written For The Evening Capital By The West Annapolis Bard.

When the stormy clouds lower
And giant waves tower
And thunder peals echo afar,
With circling sweep
O'er the storm-riven deep,
The sea gulls are crossing the bar.

The mariner, pale,
Before the fierce gale,
Guiding his bark by a star,
And with anxious eye
He scans sea and sky
Till he's thankfully crossing the bar.

As the bark and the gulls,
Seek the harbor where lulls
The storm, and there's nothing to mar:
So the purified soul,
Making Heaven its goal,
Joyfully crossing the bar.
