TO END STRIKE

Operators and Union
Leaders Are Called
to White House

Washington, June 28.—President
Harding has decided to summon to
Washington Saturday a group
of
representative coal operators
from
all parts of the United States to dis-
cuss with miner union representa-
tives the possibility of a conference
to fix wage scales and settling the
coal strike.
Arrangements were
completed after a conference at the
White House today, participated in
by Secretaries Davis and Hoover.
John L. Lewis, president of the
U. M. W. A., who saw the president
Monday, said 24 district presidents
and three executive officers, includ-
ing himself, will attend the Satur-
day conference.
