STARTS TUESDAY
9 O'clock Is Hour Set by
Commissioner Wassman and
Force of Salesmen.
COST BILL MISSING
All is in readiness for the city's
sale of its carload of government
foodstuffs at the Markethouse Tuesday
morning at 9 o'clock.
The price list has not been completed
by Commissioner Wassman's
department pending the receipt of
invoices, showing cost to the city
from Atlanta. Military authorities
there have not furnished the department
with a bill showing the cost
and for that reason the publication
of an authentic price list now is not
practicable, stated the commissioner
Monday. The only item of expense
known so far is the freight which totaled
$185.
Should the price list from Atlanta
not be available, a list similar to the
one published by the local post office
will be used. This covered the cost
of the goods plus the postage from
Atlanta.
Seven members of the city fire department
have been detailed by Commissioner
Herron to assist with the
sale. Commissioner Wassman, his
Secretary McKinley Hays; T. F. Mahoney,
sealer of weights and measures,
and Clyde Garrett, assistant
sealer of weights and measures, will
also be on hand. No ceremony of
any kind will feature the opening.
Commissioner Wassman stated.
It was not known Monday whether
the bacon ordered, which comprises
fifty cases, would be on hand Tuesday
morning or not. When Commissioner
Wassman took the matter up
with zone surplus supply officers at
Atlanta recently, he was told that
every effort would be made to have
the number of cases desired here by
the time the sale opens.
List of Food.
Employees of the department were
busy all of Saturday and most of
Sunday weighing the articles in five
and ten-pound packages preparatory
to the sale. T. F. Mahoney, sealer of
weights and measures, weighed each
article with thoroughly tested scales
and there will be no short weights.
