Word reached Bottineau yesterday that something like 80 laborers were idle in Cando and when approached by the Chief of Police of that city and told to either go to work for the going wages at threshing or leave town one of the number presented the Chief of Police with a card reading something like this:
To Whom It May Concern:
The bearer of this card is entitled to stay in your city as long as he so desires and you cannot drive him out if he does not care to go to work for the going wages.Signed Lynn J.
Frazier, Governor, North Dakota.
Now just what do you think about that for dirty work and there is not the least doubt but that the proposition was launched by some I. V. A. in an effort to hurt the Nonpartisan League. Does any sane minded person of North Dakota think that the Governor of our state would issue anything like the above? We certainly do not and feel that all peace-officers should arrest men carrying these cards.
