Authorities Manifest Uneasiness and Deputies Have Been Sent to Field.
NEW RIVER STRIKE MAY BE AVERTED.

CHARLESTON, W. VA., June 30. —Telephone wires connecting Charleston with the Paint and Cabin Creek districts, failed this morning and no information concerning the number of miners who obeyed the strike order issued yesterday could be obtained.
The authorities who are closely watching the situation manifested some uneasiness and Sheriff Bonner Hill sent deputies into the strike zone to investigate. They are expected to report late this afternoon.
Thomas Haggarty, representing the international officers of the United Mine Workers of America went to the New River coal fields today to confer with the local officers of the organization there. If they approve the terms of the agreement made here with the coal operators at Governor Hatfield's suggestion the strike called for tomorrow will not take place he said.
