Capt. Brooks' Speech,

Such was the press of business upon us, on Monday last, in the Commissioner's Office, that we were (very unwillingly) prevented from attending upon the occasion of Capt. Brooks' address to his constituents of Edgefield. Once or twice we found time to go up to the Court House door and listen to his remarks for a few minutes. As far as we did hear him, we were much pleased. It strikes us that Capt. Brooks has improved himself in every respect since he became a Congressional Representative. He has evidently given himself up to the assiduous study of such matters as will make him a most efficient public servant; and we have no hesitation in saying, that his Congressional District has reason to feel a high degree of satisfaction with the prospect of being so well represented in the Congress of the United States. Our member has our best wishes for success in his praiseworthy exertions.
