ATTENDANCE AT U. D. C. CONVENTION EXPECTED TO BE LARGE.
SANDERSVILLE, Ga., October 27. -This little city is gaily decorated for the thirty-first annual session of the Georgia Division United Daughters of the Confederacy, which will convene Wednesday and Thursday.
The Mary Ann Williams Chapter, U. D. C., will be host to the convention.
Sessions will be held in the Christian Church.
It was stated today that approximately 150 visitors will be in attendance. This being election year, the attendance will be unusually large and there will be many prominent U. D. C. members from every section of the state.
Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock, welcome addresses from the city, local newspaper, public schools, Confederate and World War veterans and all civic organizations will be made.
Mrs. S. G. Lang, president of the local U. D. C. Chapter will present Mrs. Walter Grace, president of the Georgia Division to the convention.
Mrs. Oscar MeKenzie, of Montezuma, will present Mrs. Frank Harrold, president general of the U. D. C. Mrs. T. Stevens, of Atlanta, will present nine past presidents of the organization, said to be the largest number that ever attended a state meeting of the organization.
Keen rivalry is expected to develop during the sessions by candidates aspiring to the office of president.
Among those most prominently mentioned for the post is Mrs. Oscar McKenzie, of Montezuma.
Social Program
An elaborate social program has been prepared which includes a one o'clock luncheon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Evans Wednesday with the Jared Irwin Chapter D. A. R. and Mary Ann Williams Chapter U. D. C. as joint hostesses. Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock a buffet tea will be served in Tennille at the Woman's Club House with the Tennille U. D. C. Chapter as hostess. At 6 p. m. the annual reception will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis H. Holt with the Mary Ann Williams Chapter as hostess.
Thursday at noon, at the home of Col. and Mrs. J. J. Harris, a luncheon will be served, the Sandersville Woman's Club acting as hostess. At 6 o'clock Thursday evening tea at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Shel-nut, will be served by the Twentieth Century Club, Round Table Club, Transylvania Club, Sorosis Study Club as hostesses.
