Full Text

March 23. This morning George Tremble, for robbing Capt. Lockhart, on the highway, was executed at Tyburn. He was a tall and very genteel young man, not quite 22 years of age, his behaviour was manly and devout. Just before he was turned off, the parson or ordinary, at his desire, informed the numerous spectators, that the unhappy victim to the laws of his country desired them to take warning by his unhappy fate, and particularly to shun the company of lewd women, and living beyond their income, from a false principle of grandeur, which, he said, were two chief instruments of his ruin. The ordinary declared that he had constantly attended him since his condemnation, and that he never met with a more sincere penitent. A young man, related to him by marriage, attended in the cart all the time, and the parting between them was greatly affecting.--It is no longer than the last assizes for the county of Surry, that this unhappy youth was pardoned by his Majesty for the like offence.
