Full Text

It has been mentioned in the papers that there is at present a want of attornies in East Florida, sufficient to transact the law business already on foot in that infant colony, on which a correspondent desires that we would strongly recommend it to the Government to grant a bounty for the exportation of attornies to that province, as they could be very well spared in the Mother Country; which our correspondent thinks will be easily admitted by a retrospection to the votes of the House of Commons in the year 1747 (or thereabouts) when, by an authentick list delivered in, by order, to that House, it appeared that in London, Westminster, and the Bills of Mortality only, there were full 60,000 practicing attornies, a number scarce to be credited, if it were not published by such unquestionable authority ; and there is little reason to believe, from the spirit of the times, that the number is not equal now to what it was then.
