$3 Sweepstake Ticket
Nets Palmer Man $56,000

ANCHORAGE (AP) - A hobby he admittedly pays little attention to netted a Palmer man and his joyful hysterical wife $56,000 in the Irish Sweepstakes Saturday.

Kyle Turner of Palmer, had a $3 ticket on Merryman II, the horse which finished second in the Grand National Steeplechase at Aintree, England.

Had the horse wound up first the prize would have been $140,000.

Turner stated he got a letter Friday indicating his ticket had been drawn. "I thought it might be worth about $250. I had no idea it would win as much as it did. I'm amazed." He sounded as if he still doesn't believe it.

Both he and his wife regard his purchases as a hobby. "I don't play it professionally, and I guess I'll keep playing it," he said.

Turner is a vice president of the Matanuska Valley Bank in Palmer.
