THE ASSESSORS are in high glee at having completed their labors, about which so much has been said, and are now considering the applications brought up against their assessments on the last day appointed for the revision of the books.

As to their demeanor toward taxpayers during the time when the writer happened to be present in the office of the assessors, the writer takes pleasure in testifying to their courtesy and patience generally, and more to their tolerance in several cases, some of which have been reported in the DEMOCRAT.

We will cite one other instance. A few days before the close of the books an individual walked up excitedly to the desk of the assessor of the Second District, and, without provocation, exclaimed, as he threw down upon the counter his assessment return, "Who is the hog that has assessed my property at this figure?" The assessor, who was sitting down at the time, although SURPRISED AND SHOCKED at this interpellation did not lose his temper, but after measuring the individual with a glance, quietly arose and as coolly replied: "Sir, I am that hog." The visitor, who was evidently a better bred man than his language indicated, in his turn cooled down, and his case was attended to without further circumstance.

As to the representative of the DEMOCRAT during the entire time of their trying occupation, he has only to thank them and Administrator Revetoff for a uniform courtesy and valuable assistance in the performance of his duties.
