Bruce Johnston was elected president of the Wrangell Concert Association at its meeting last Sunday afternoon at the Fire Hall.
Other new officers elected were Fred S. Johnston, vice president; Mrs. W. S. Watkins, secretary and Mrs. H. B. Thornquist was re-elected treasurer.
Mrs. Judith Krepps was appointed publicity chairman with Mrs. Winnie Williams assisting.
Mrs. Dorothy Roberts will chairman the ticket sales with Mrs. Alice Ellis and Mrs. Verna Kaer as assistants.
During the meeting a letter was read from Maxim Shapiro, Alaska Music Trails originator, that he had available a grand piano which the local association could purchase for $1,800 plus crating, with $1,000 down and the balance in payments. However, since the local association has only $750 toward a piano so far and since no adequate storage space is immediately available it was decided to postpone purchase until the association's financial situation is improved. The public was reminded that any contributions toward the piano would be gratefully received.
Organizations sponsoring the concerts for the coming season are: Civic Club, October; Parent-Teachers, November; Elks Lodge and Emblem Club, March, and the local churches in April.
Representatives from the various organizations making up the concert committee are Bruce Johnston, Elks; Doris Eastaugh, Emblem Club; Margaret Hall, St. Philip's Auxiliary; Marjory Sharnbroich, Ladies Aid; Leona Engdal and Dorothy Ottesen, P-TA; Alice Ellis and Verna Kaer, Pocahontas; Mrs. W. S. Watkins, Civic Club.
