PHILADELPHIA, AUG. 3.

Afflicting occurrence.—On Tuesday afternoon, in this city and the neighboring districts, we had a succession of gusts accompanied by much thunder and lightning. We are apprehensive of serious injury having taken place. In this city, a boy was considerably injured by some bricks falling on him from a chimney which was struck with lightning.

Mrs. Susan M'Mullin, daughter of Mr. John M'Mullin and wife of Robert M'Mullin, jr. of this city, while sitting near a chimney in a house in the vicinity of the Blue Bell Tavern, Darby road, was struck with lightning, and instantly killed. All the means used to resuscitate her proved unavailing. She was interred yesterday afternoon, in the burial ground of the 6th Presbyterian Church, leaving a young family and many afflicted relatives and friends to deplore her loss.
