WHITE REPUBLICANS.

The Texas Convention Held at Houston Only Slimly Attended.

Houston, Tex., Dec. 12.—The white Republican convention met here yesterday, in accordance with a call published a few weeks ago. The meeting was called to order by G. C. Felton, and S. B. Strong was elected temporary secretary. Dr. Max Urwitz, Judge Henry Cline and H. F. McGregor made addresses advocating the supremacy of the white man over the negro, and holding that the Government must be run by white men and not by negroes. Judge Cline took a rather gloomy view of the situation, as the attendance was small. Mr. McGregor was sanguine, and thought they would win in the course of time. J. W. Lemley was elected President, and S. B. Strong Secretary. Two Vice Presidents were elected—C. T. Lyons, of Sherman, and E. H. Ropes, of Corpus Christi. H. F. McGregor, of Houston, was chosen Treasurer. Resolutions were adopted indicating the future course of the white Republicans. An executive committee, consisting of thirty-one members, was appointed.
