Bartlett Tells of Voluminous Mail Opposing Partition

Special to the Nome Nugget
From Washington, D.C., Bob Bartlett, Alaska delegate to Congress, writes:
"The citizens of Nome and indeed of all the Second Division would be mighty proud and happy if they could have read as I have during the last ten days wires and letters which have come to my office in uncounted numbers taking issue with the proposal that you people be left out in the cold so far as statehood is concerned.
"The demonstration has been simply amazing. You have had support from every section of Alaska which, according to the Governor's plan, would be included in the new state.
"Even those in the Second Division who may not even be for statehood would have had their spirits elevated, I am confident, by this heart-warming expression."
