Trial of the Shakers.—On the 22d inst. came on before the Supreme Court, sitting at Worcester, the trial of John Warner and seven others, head men of the Society of Shakers in Harvard, on an indictment for having falsely imprisoned, assaulted, and beaten Seth Babbitt, a member of the Society, from the year 1823, to the finding of the indictment. The defence was that Babbit was deranged, and the treatment he received was rendered necessary by the unfortunate state of his mind. The jury agreed in five minutes on a verdict of acquittal. The prosecution was conducted by the Solicitor General, and the defence by messrs. Dana and Herr.
