Full Text

The Chippewa Herald is raging furiously over the organization of that new Railroad Company. In this we are not disappointed, since it has evidently been ready to fall into the embrace of the enemy, for many weeks past. When an editor begins to apologize for those conscienceless back pay grabbers, and Credit Mobiliers, we have little hope of him. In fact, we know he has no longer any real sympathy with the toiling masses.

The Herald steps forward to condemn the company without a hearing, and is ready to consign it to the rack or to purgatory, or to both, without benefit of clergy. We deem its editor hasty, inconsiderate, and unjust in the extreme. It is not a manly part to condemn, or even to arouse suspicion in advance. There is time enough to howl hypocrisy after it has been exhibited. Let that new Company stand or fall on its own merits; let it have a fair chance to show its true character by its acts, and not attempt to arouse an unjust prejudice against it without a shadow of cause.
