At a numerous meeting, convened at the Court House this evening agreeable to public notice, to take into consideration the propriety of addressing a petition to the President of the United States, to remove Francis Peyton from the command of the Militia of this town and county.
A motion was made and concurred in, that Elisha Cullen Dick be Chairman of this meeting:
Whereupon, it was unanimously RESOLVED:
1st. That it is the opinion of this Meeting, that the Militia of Alexandria, has been much depreciated, and disorganized during the operation of its present establishment.
2d. That it is the opinion of this Meeting, that Lieutenant Col. Francis Peyton, is the principal cause thereof, and is an improper person to command a Militia of Free Men.
3d. That Robert Young, Peter Wise, jun. John Pittman, and Elisha Cullen Dick, be a Committee to draft a Petition to the President of the United States, praying him, to remove Col. Francis Peyton from his said command; and that they cause it to be communicated in any manner they may deem proper.
4th. Resolved, That the foregoing proceedings be published.
