BANK ROBBER CAUGHT. An attempt was made to rob the New London Bank on the morning of the 29th July, by a fellow named Thomas Rutland. Rutland is an Englishman, and has for some time been located in the basement of the Steamboat Hotel, as a barber. He was discovered coming out of the Bank by a Mr. West whose attention had been previously attracted by a noise in the Bank and a light through the crevices of the windows. Rutland, after leaving the bank, entered the basement of the Hotel. Mr. West secured the door and called for assistance—which soon came. Rutland was then secured, and his premises being searched, a quantity of false keys were discovered in an ash heap. He had succeeded in unlocking all the doors of the Bank but those of the vault.
