Extract of a Letter from a Gentleman in London, to his Friend in this Town, dated August 24.
"We hear that PETER LIVIUS, Esq; is appointed Chief Justice and Secretary of the Province of New-Hampshire, with a Salary of 200 per Annum,--By this appointment, I hope the Grievances of the People of that Province will in some measure be Removed, which they have so long complain'd of."
[We pretend not to determine what Credit is to be given to the above Extract, but were we to indulge a Guess, We would think it not improbable from the latter Part of it, that the Letter, of which this is said to be an Extract, was fabricated in some Part of New-England, especially as some Provinces abound with Geniuses who can upon any occasion sit in their own Chimney-Corners and Write a Letter from London.]
Another Extract of a Letter says, "We hear the famous Joshua How, is to be appointed Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, and Recorder-General of the Province, in order to remove all other Grievances."
