Bicyclists Will Get Parking Stalls for Their Two Wheelers

Construction of 160 bicycle racks in the downtown shopping area of McAllen will be started Monday morning. The bicycle parking "stalls" will be built under a plan developed by the McAllen chamber of commerce and will be constructed by city employees working under the direction of W. F. Hartshorn, head of the parks and street department and police Chief Noah Conn.

One unit of the parking racks for 100 bicycles will be built near the city hall on Austin Avenue a half block east of Main Street, and the other accommodating 60 bicycles will be built on Beaumont Avenue a half block west of Main street on a parking lot donated by Major I. J. Berk.

It is believed, bicycle racks would assist the scores of people now riding bicycles because of the rubber shortage.

Through assistance of the city in furnishing labor, the chamber of commerce was able to provide the racks at a very small cost. They will be for the free use of anyone using that form of locomotion.
