THE BANKS! THE BANKS!
The Van Buren papers say the banks are in the field to defeat the election of Van Buren. We wish to inquire of Roger Enos, Samuel B. Mattocks, Robert Harvey, and others of Van Buren's friends who are Directors and Proprietors in Banks in this quarter, if such is the case? What, gentlemen, is it you who profess to be laboring for the success of Van Buren, who are using the banks to defeat him? It is you if anybody. And if your party papers tell the truth in this business, your connection with banks should be dissolved. If they do not tell the truth, you, if you act honestly, will rebuke your papers. No banks with which you are connected could be guilty of the charges made against them without your being aiders and abettors. Are you guilty or not guilty?
