SPARKS FROM THE POLITICAL ANVIL,

Christian and Scott counties, Illinois, send
Grant delegations to the Republican State
Convention.

Sherman has no sort of a chance of getting
a solid delegation in Ohio to the Chicago Convention.-(Brooklyn Argus.

Sandusky county, Ohio, the home of President Hayes, instructed its delegates to the
State Convention to vote for Blaine delegates
to the National Convention.

After the nomination of Grant is made it
will be so easy for the Anti-Third Termers to
become Third-Termers, and go for Grant
'all the same as twice before.'

Orangeburg county, S. C., on Friday last
elected a solid instructed Grant delegation to
the State convention. S. L. Duncan, D. S.
Straker, E. A. Webster, J. H. Swindston and
A. Arthur are the delegates.

The Springfield, Ill., State Journal (Rep.)
says: 'If General Grant is a candidate
for the nomination for the Presidency before
the Chicago Convention at all, he will receive the vote of his own State. That may be set
down as a fixed fact.'

With any other candidate than Grant the
vote of New York is essential to success.
Grant, however, although reasonably certain
to carry New York, can be elected without
the vote of that State, as he is sure of at least
thirty-seven votes from the South. This is the
opinion of the best-informed politicians of
both parties.-[Nebraska City Press.

The sons of President Lincoln and Stephen
A. Douglas made speeches at the Grant mass
meeting held in Chicago on Thursday evening. That the Representatives of these two
eminent men should be the devoted friends of
General Grant, and so decidedly in favor of
his nomination, is one of the significant signs
of the time that cast their shadows before.

The nomination of General Grant at Chicago remains still the well-nigh assured outcome; and all that the old Bay State has accomplished by her droll indulgence in a piece
of impracticable politics is to give a faint encouragement to Senator Blaine to hope against
hope that the Grant column may somehow be
broken, and give him the benefit of the stalwart second choice.--[Boston Traveler.
