Administration of Mr. Fillmore,
It is truly remarked by the Philadelphia Inquirer that the Administration of President Fillmore is eminently popular with the masses everywhere throughout the Union. The indications upon this point are of the most conclusive character. The present incumbent of the executive chair has realized the warmest expectations of his friends and the country. He has manifested fidelity as well as firmness, and has shown himself true to the Constitution and the Union. His administration thus far, has, in a great measure, been faultless, and has extorted praises from many of the leaders of the opposition. The national honor has been sustained, the national character has been vindicated, and the national prosperity has been promoted.—Mr. Fillmore has shown himself President not of the North, or of the South, of the East, or of the West, but of the whole Union. We cannot be surprised, therefore, at the lively demonstrations of approval that are everywhere made, in relation to his policy and his principles. He is for the Union, as it is, for the Compromise as it is—and so are the people at large, by an overwhelming majority.
