Super Five, Adelphi Cagers Set Fast Pace In "Y" Loop

In the first game of the series of Monday night basketball games the University Bears, the newest team in the "Y" league, laced the 2nd place Golden Tigers to the tune of 41-26. Whittaker and Woods' all-round play during the entire game proved to be the spark that the Bears lacked in previous games.

In the second game the Adelphi, leaders of the League, led by O'Neal, Dooley, Ware and Sherwood conquered the rapidly improving Ramblers. The first half was somewhat slow with neither side showing much aggression. At the beginning of the second half, however, both teams seemed to be reviving and baskets began falling from all angles. Holloway was high scorer for the winners with eight points. Washington led the losers with five. Final score: Adelphi 26, Ramblers 18.

The Super Five Giants turned the tables and surprised the house Monday night by taking the measure of the swift John Eagan Cagers. The three Grant brothers started the fireworks by flinging eight points before John Eagan could get set. Their exceptional height was more than the John Eagan Cagers could cope with. Fred Ray turned in a total of 11 points for high, Brewer for Eagan seemed to be right at home with the six-footers (since he is six feet himself) and scored 10 points for the losers. Final score: Super Five 29, John Eagan 25.

All the teams in the Monday night league have displayed remarkable improvement and the second round should prove to be a touch-and-go affair with all six teams shooting for honors.

In the Young Men's League on Tuesday night, the Jester's Ten, the hard luck team of the league, won an easy decision over the King of Dukes by a score of 25-15. Nichols paced the victors with 9 points while Davis led the losers with 6. The Warhawks from Pittsburgh forfeited 2-0 to the Jive Bombers.
