On Thursday the 10th instant there was found floating in Potomac river, opposite to Alexandria, a dead man (upon whom there appeared several marks of violence) five feet seven or eight inches high, with a short nose, and short curled hair, of a light chesnut colour. He had on a blue and white check shirt, a pair of purple (or deep claret) cloth breeches, with silk knee garters, pocket, a pair of country made shoes, and stockings of a mixed colour, country made likewise, which were mended in the seat and a piece put in below the right. The Coroner's inquest brought in their verdict murder, by a person or persons unknown.
