A dead man was found floating in the Potomac river opposite to Alexandria. He was five feet seven or eight inches high, with a short nose, and short curled hair of a light chesnut colour. He wore a blue and white check shirt, a pair of purple (or deep claret) cloth breeches with silk knee garters, a pair of country made shoes, and stockings of a mixed colour, country made likewise, mended in the seat and with a piece put in below the right. The Coroner's inquest brought in their verdict of murder by a person or persons unknown.
